About this event

The University is playing its part in the St Andrew’s Fair Saturday on 30th November with a lively programme of music and drama with favourites from River City.

St Andrew’s Fair Saturday is Scotland’s contribution to Fair Saturday, a global movement with a positive cultural impact that takes place the day after Black Friday. Its aim is to generate a massive mobilisation of people in support of arts and culture to highlight their essential role in building a better future. Fair Saturday is based on cultural activities of all kind, each of which collaborates with a social cause which the artists choose.

Please find below our programme of events which are free and open to the public, our staff, students and graduates. (For those wishing to make a voluntary contribution on the day, the benefiting charities are Drake Music Scotland and Breast Cancer Support).

11:30 – 12:00 Glasgow City Council Schools Concert Band

The GCC Schools Concert Band is part of the CREATE Music Group which is a partnership between Glasgow City Councils' Education Services Instrumental Music Service (IMS), Youth Music Initiative (YMI) and Partnership Projects supporting all Primary, Secondary and Early Years Establishments in Glasgow. CREATE Music Group continually strives to have the highest quality learning experiences and opportunities for children and young people ensuring they support schools to transform music provision in Glasgow through innovation, creativity and inspirational learning and teaching.

12:15 – 12:45 A night at the Winter movies – The University Choir with friends from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

The GCU Choir will perform a medley of popular Winter movie songs.

13:30 – 14:20 Rachel’s Cousins – Play by Ann Marie Di Mambro. Rehearsed reading by Maureen Carr (Teresa from River City) and Gary Sweeney (Gabriel from River City)

Rachel, a successful lawyer, keeps her mother's side of the family at arm's length. But then she discovers she has a gene which means an increased risk of breast cancer and is duty bound to let her cousins know. They come crashing into her very private life and shake it up. A serious topic is treated with warmth and humour.
